Here are some of the things that you need to think about when planting trees and other large shrubs in your garden.

• Planning – take the time to plan out your landscaping and planting ideas and think about where your drainage systems lie in your garden. • Species research – make sure that you research the species of plant that you are thinking of buying and check to see how big it is likely to grow. A good rule of thumb is to look at how tall a plant will get along with the spread of its canopy. This then often translates to the depth and width that the root network will travel.
