Time for a greener house.

Time for a greener house.

When we say greener house we are not talking about glass. Although, having said that, getting a greenhouse (made of glass this time) is one of the best ways to move towards and more environmentally home. You can grow your own veg like Tomatoes and Peppers without having to travel to the shops using fossil fuels and buying something covered in plastic. What else can you do to start living a greener home?

First of all you need to look at all of the options for insulation. If your windows are ancient then you need to think about getting double glazing immediately. This is a great way for keeping the heat in your home, reducing the use of natural gas from a boiler for the radiators. Conversely they also keep out the heat when the sun is shining brightly in the summertime. This means that you do not have to invest in an expensive air conditioning system either to try and keep the home cool.

Whilst we are on the subject of insulation there is the question of what you are doing with your cavity walls. If you havent got this done yet then you should seriously consider getting it done as the savings are huge. One final thing that you can do is use Downlight Covers from  Thermahood Direct.  These are plastic covers that deflect the light from LED lights back into the room reducing heat loss.
